Mullican Hardwood Flooring-Technology

Mullican has a variety of flooring options with varying styles that will help consumers make the right decision for their home.

Solid hardwood flooring must be installed over plywood, oriented strand board and wood subflooring and can only be in rooms on the ground level or above-ground areas since it does not perform well in high-moisture areas such as basements.

Engineered hardwood can be installed over plywood, OSB, wood and concrete subfloors and has been designed to help alleviate potential moisture problems. This flooring is not a solid piece of wood and features a cross-layer construction that is manufactured to reduce expansion. It can also be installed with either glue or staples while a minimum of 3 inches in width can be installed with the floating installation method.

The lumber is sent to one of the four manufacturing facilities in the United States based on the type of species the wood is while each facility has state-of-the-art machinery that reduces labor costs and time while enhancing the overall product. Mullican manufacturing facilities all hold the Forest Stewardship Council Chain-of-Custody certification that means all entities in their supply chain hold FSC-certification credentials and meets the standards of the FSC for environmentally friendly forestry.

They make sure that every piece of lumber is processed to a uniform thickness before stacking them while they also make sure to place sticks every 12 inches to separate them so the boards remain straight and unaltered. Mullican uses a kiln-drying process that maximizes its stability and minimizes the movement of the wood during the warm and cold seasons and is automatically checked by an in-line moisture meter. Their experienced, professional graders inspect every inch of the flooring during every step of the manufacturing process while other specialists check that moisture content and milling are always consistent.

Mullican’s prefinished and unfinished solid flooring is manufactured in the United States as well as a significant quantity of their engineered flooring. The intense oversight from Mullican’s quality control engineers guarantees that the processes at all production facilities adhere to current regulatory and sustainability standards.
