Bona NordicSeal Water Based Wood Floor Sealer 1 Gallon WB250618001
Both products worked beautifully. I used 3 coats of red out and 2 coats of Nordic seal to achieve a beautiful neutral wood tone on red oak. It neutralized the red and lighted it quite a bit. It looked closer to birch color when completed. Finished with osmo extra thin on top
DID NOT have any complaint with Woodys. Courteous and fast shipping. However, to rate the product itself; Called the 800 number after the first coat to ask why I didn’t see a difference. They said to give it three coats and not to worry bc it is their best selling product and it will take the red and yellow out of the red oak. I called them after the third coat to tell them I saw no change at all. It felt like they were asking me questions to find a flaw in the application. I told them we had approx 2000 sq ft. to stain. Turns out it’s almost 1600. My floor guy used 9 gallons of Nordicseal over three coats. They look the same as they did when they were sanded. I’m going with it was a waste and learn from my mistake please. This stuff is too expensive to trial with.
I purchased the NordicSeal for my red oak floors that I sanded down from the typical darker red/brown 1960’s stain. They turned out exactly how I wanted them. The only thing I didn’t like is when I put the finish/top coats on (clear) PolyWhey 3500 the white wash lost some of the whiteness. So, I probably should have done 3 coats of NordicSeal instead of 2 to keep the level of white wash that I really loved the best. I was pressed for time and could not sand off the finish and reapply a third coat.
Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with it. We had to remove it and sand the floor again. Its a wonderful and modern looking sealer for the floors, it gave the perfect tone, just as we wanted, but it is very hard to apply. It leaved white marks on the corners and in tight spaces.
Everyone told me I'd be sorry if I attempted to refinish my kitchen /entryway floor myself. They were wrong. Sanding off that orange-y finish that was so popular in the 90s was indeed a lot of work, but the natural, slightly whitewashed look of NordicSeal is awesome. Application was easy and forgiving. I found that I didn't have to worry too much about getting the coverage perfectly even; when it dried, it looked completely unform.
