We bought a home recently and we were trying to salvage and refinish the original red oak select floors from 1978. During this process we removed and salvaged boards from one area, removed damaged and replaced with new boards and feathered in new wood to areas that did not have hard wood. We searched for a product that would be easy to work with and allow us to keep the natural beauty of the floors without completely washing it out. We decided on the Bona Natural Seal and the HD Traffic Extra Matte finish.
Wood Wudy had the cheapest pricing and fast delivery. It was a one stop shop for the seal coat, finish, and application tools needed for the job. One of the products was missing a filter and I contacted the company and they had it shipped out quickly to us.
I would recommend this product. We loved the completed look. The Classic seal saved us time and money as it only need one coat and does not need to be sanded before HD coat. We thought we ordered enough for 2 coats of HD but we had enough to do 3 coats. The could have been user error on applying the first coat too thin or my math of square footage, but we made sure to try and apply the next 2 coats thicker. The direction stated you don't have to sand in between HD coats but we had planned on doing so per some recommendations. Unfortunately the sanding kicked our butts and took a lot longer as we were trying to match high traffic areas, salvaged wood and brand new wood. We did everything ourselves and since we took longer than we had hoped we did not have the rental machine to scuff sand in between. Some spots are slightly rough but not very. Not enough for someone who didn't study every inch of these floors like we did to notice. The results are everything we wanted and more. The Classic seal brings out a light and natural beauty in the wood, allowing some of the red oak to peek through. It does NOT look like fresh sanded wood, nor does it look like white washed or white oak (if you are looking for either of those looks this is not the product for red oak). It truly highlights the wood very well. The HD Extra Matte is also a great choice. The sheen on it is just right for us. It has enough to make it look like finished wood but not enough to shine or have a glare with any light. Attached are some before and after pictures. I had a hard time finding what Classic would look like on red oak. The pictures are before sanding and after the product was dry.
